Working the Program (WTP) describes how clinicians can effectively use 12 Step programs to reinforce the principles of recovery. The course provides an in-depth view of how 12-Step meetings work and how to quickly incorporate them into a personal recovery program. When clinicians encourage participation, clients are more likely to be involved in 12-Step programs during and after treatment. The goal of incorporating 12-Step work into treatment is to increase the client’s successful continuation after formal treatment has ended. It can rapidly accelerate a clients understanding of the principles and practices of 12-Step programs and helps them to manage some of the challenges of recovery. 12-Step programs are a complement to treatment, rather than a replacement. 12-Step programs can serve as the safety net between formal treatment sessions. understanding the nature and characteristics of addictive disease can help addicted people avoid relapse. Many people fail to recover not for lack of trying but because of their limited understanding. Knowledge about the way addiction affects their physical bodies, behavior, and thought processes can provide a valuable tool for recovering people.
