This home study course defines group therapy, presents the different types of groups, and describes the trends that are creating a need for brief strategic group therapy methods.  The Problem Solving Group Therapy Model is presented along with the recommended Group Rules, Group Responsibilities, Group Corrective Procedures, and Group Problem Solving Agenda.

The problem-solving group format accomplishes several things. It rapidly establishes an effective group atmosphere that allows individual group members to work on different issues in the same session using a series of standard group process procedures. The standard format is designed to help the therapist track the implementation and completion of treatment techniques. It targets specific problems, clearly defines treatment goals, and identifies specific time-limited interventions. Group members assume a high degree of ownership and responsibility for solving their own problems in collaboration with the group leader who guides them through a systematic problem-solving process.
